Shangri La Orchids is a family owned business, a dream-child that grew from over 15 years of being a hobbyist. We carry quite a variety of orchid species, however, we do not deal in large quantities of any specific plants.

I can recall when I began my trek into the world of orchids. I was like a child in a candy store. After I began to seriously study orchids I immediately became captivated with species plants. The natural beauty and at times the challenge to grow the plant was part of the fun and was also quite a serious learning experience. It did not take me long to discover that many of the orchids I was rather keen on purchasing were unfortunately also rather difficult to find, especially in the Canadian market. I began to import my own plants directly from various dealers around the globe. Although the process is costly, it seemed the only way that I could obtain the plants that were of interest to me (I'm a tad obsessive in this way). Like many orchid growers, who have the space, I go through periods of having to obtain ALL the plants in a certain species (or at least try…haha) and aim to grow them to perfection.

After Sai Hung and I had our greenhouse constructed we began to think it was a good opportunity. We decided to focus on the plants that were of interest to us thinking that certainly there are those few people like us who enjoy collecting uncommon species plants. The niche seemed to fit well and this way we would also not be stepping on the toes of established vendors in our local area. We slowly began to order the plants we found of interest in small quantities to offer to other orchid folk that may be interested. This way we can offset some of the import cost, offer the plants we carry, and carry on our addiction oops- "interest" in uncommon plants.

Our personal focus has always been geared toward species. There is something magical for me in obtaining a plant that Mother Nature created in her endless creativity. Although in my lifetime I am certain that I will never travel to many of the places certain species grow, I can in some way touch that area through the orchids that grow there- like a small window into a hidden secret world.

We do collect some hybrids, mostly primary crosses, or hybrids that are just to cool to not have. While many people may be of the general opinion that species are somewhat more difficult to grow, many of the species we offer are well suited to growing under lights or in windowsill culture.

In our greenhouse we grow mostly intermediate and warm growing plants. The plants listed on this site are in limited numbers so the site is kept up to date. If a plant is listed I have it in stock, plants that sell out are immediately removed from the sales list. Where you may find species or hybrids where the cost seems considerable, it could be for a number of reasons from being highly awarded, to where the plant form/colour/leaf characteristics may increase the price. The latter is often the case with certain species.

While we sell plants, our own collection is quite varied and we will certainly consider ~some~ trades where there may be mutual interest. Please contact me for our collection list.

我們不是甚麼大公司、大企業，但我們相信只要有夢想，每個人都可以找到自己心中的理想。這亦是香格里拉蘭花源開始的第一步。因為這是一個種植蘭花超過十五年的蘭花愛好者的夢想。

我仍記得當初踏進這蘭花世界，自己就像一個孩子進入糖果國一樣。當我再認真學習及了解蘭花這植物，頓時更被原種蘭花所吸引。而且它的自然美態及栽種時所面對的挑戰，更是自己對其著迷的原因。而在這學習過程中，亦充滿無限樂趣。但是自己卻發覺較困難的，反而是在找尋及購買自己喜愛的蘭花品種，尤其在加拿大這個蘭花市場。所以我便開始透過世界各地的蘭花經銷商，購買自己喜歡的蘭花。雖然付出很大，但這卻是一個唯一途徑去滿足自己對蘭花的追求。就如許多蘭花愛好者一樣，自己亦曾夢想把全世界的蘭花品種全數收集〈我仍在嘗試呢!哈哈!〉，並且把它們栽種得更完美。

當我與世雄的溫室建成後，我想這正是一個玄機。我們決定把這一份興趣再加以延伸，發展成為一盤小生意。雖然我們沒有偌大的溫室，但我們卻有著一份「人情味」。這正是一些大型蘭花種植場所欠缺的。此外，我們亦覺得在最初的時候，我們祗是一個喜愛蘭花的栽種者。所以我們亦應循此方向，選擇一些我們喜愛的蘭花作銷售。同時亦希望有更多蘭花知音人如我們一樣，喜愛收集一些非一般的蘭花來栽種。於是我們四出搜羅及引入一些別緻的蘭花品種。一方面可以給蘭花愛好者多一個渠道，去購買他們的另類心頭好。二來更可以滿足自己對這些蘭花追求的心癮。

此外，自己對蘭花亦有一種奇妙的感覺。透過它們，自己可以看到大自然無限的創造力。雖然我不能夠環遊全世界，但透過不同蘭花所開啟的一扇小窗，自己就好像與它們所生長的地方有了一線聯繫。

在我們的小溫室內，我們栽種的蘭花，現時以原種洋蘭為主。主要是一些中溫至溫暖程度的品種。也許很多人覺得栽種原種洋蘭會比較困難。但是我們所選擇的原種洋蘭，很多都是容易栽種及打理。有些甚至可以擺放在室內燈光下或窗旁便可生長。而除了原種洋蘭外，我們更會搜羅一些「酷」的交配種洋蘭作銷售。因為我們每種蘭花品種的存量有限，故此我們會不時更新此網站的資料。希望大家亦常常瀏覽我們這個網站，看看有沒有一些你們喜歡的蘭花在這裡。

順帶一提，也許你會發覺在網站內，有某些蘭花品種的價錢會偏高一些。主要原因可能是該蘭花品種曾經授獎，又或是它獨特的生長形態，例如顏色、葉的特徵等等。而對某些品種的蘭花，後者的因素尤為重要。

雖然我們主要以銷售蘭花為主，但我們同時亦會接受「以蘭換蘭」的方式，去滿足你我對蘭花追求的興趣。大家不妨致電給我們了解一下詳情。
